Hi all, sorry for the late notice, but a very well-respected scientist and practitioner of Buddhist (Zen) meditation will be speaking in Gainesville. This is a rare opportunity to listen to a great researcher, author, and practitioner.
James H. Austin, M.D.
Visiting Professor of Neurology
University of Florida College of Medicine
7PM, Monday, Feb 20, 2012
HPNP Auditorium
In "Meditating Selflessly", Dr. Austin's talk explains meditative practices from the perspective of a "neural Zen." The latest findings in brain research inform its suggestions. In Meditating Selflessly, James Austin guides the audience toward that open awareness already awaiting them on the cushion and in the natural world. Drawing widely from the exciting new field of Contemplative Neuroscience, Austin helps resolve an ancient paradox: why both insight wisdom and selflessness arise simultaneously during enlightened states of consciousness.
Dr. Jim Austin, a clinical neurologist, researcher, and Zen practitioner for more than three decades, is Professor Emeritus of Neurology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Visiting Professor of Neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. At the University of Colorado, Dr. Austin was Chair of the Department of Neurology.
