Dangerously organic!

St. Augustine grass problems

We have a part of our lawn that has this on going problem. Every summer it develops brown places and the grass dies. The yard care people say it isn't chinch bugs nor is it brown patch. We need to do something to keep the yard from dying away.
Any ideas?
If it is a fungus---does anyone have experience with treating it? And what is it?
We have stumped two professional companies.

I hear that St Augustine isn't always the best grass for your particular lawn. Sometimes other types of grass are better. For example, the acidity or salinity of your soil and the amount of water, shade, surrounding plants all make a difference. Believe it or not, here in Florida it was once a practice to bury the construction garbage in the yard after building the house! We have areas of lawns that will never grow because of what's underneath.
