Kiva is indeed amazing. I can endorse it. I work with Nicaraguan entrepreneur Alejos Antonio Aviles Guillen using Kiva. You can read about my experience here. You can click Alejos's picture below for details.

I have several American friends who work in Nicaragua, including Heather of The Ten Back Collection dot com. Someday soon, I hope to visit Alejos and my friends in Nicaragua.

This is an amazing website: http://www.kiva.org/app.php

I only just found out about it, but it's been going on for a while. It allows you to personally loan money to an individual in the third world, where a pitifully small loan (to us) makes a huge difference in people's lives.

One example: a lady in Peru received $475 for wool and dyes for her family weaving business. You can lend as little as $25 and you can loan it to a specific person. And these are loans, not donations. You get the money back, so you can do it again!

It's one of the best internet ideas I've ever seen.

Kiva lets you lend to a specific entrepreneur in the developing world empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty.
