Dangerously organic!

Hello. I've been caring for my past and present dogs (present dog photos ---> one eyed black dog - 'Brewster' and Group pic dog 'Levi') for over 13 years. This includes feeding raw (AKA biologically appropriate raw food), natural flea (well somewhat - it is Florida), heartworm (none), mosquito and tick preventatives. I've also attempted natural treatments for arthritis, hip displaysia, spondylosis, ear issues, allergies and cancer. There are times when allopathic methods are required, and I've learned to cross the line. I hope members will share methods that they have tried, what worked, what didn't as I know I am always open to learning new alternatives to ensure my 'best friends' live a long and healthy life. Now for the disclaimer: I'm not a vet or nutritionist, just a caring pet owner who would like to share or help members obtain answers to their canine issues. Any responses that you receive from me or others on this forum are not intended to replace professional help.

I can always learn about helping my dog..he is a member of the family and a very good friend. Thank goodness I've found an open minded vet who is willing to help me try new things. I still haven't tried the raw diet, but have been tempted.

Welcome Dotty,
I'm so glad you could join this group, and it's great you have an open minded vet. Down the road when this group is larger, I hope to start a database of vets who are 'open minded'. Give Kramer a big hug for me -- for any new members joining now or in the future, Kramer is Dotty's wonderful labrador retriever, whose nose would always dictate which way we would walk in the morning (McDonalds bag of fries over here, garbage day in this subdivision, roadkill over here). I still say he needs to be a search and rescue dog.
