If you are considering or currently feed your pets this food, keep a close eye on the ingredients that they do not change once P&G get their hands on it.

    Hey Stacy,
Prevention of heartworm is multi pronged. a) ensuring your pet has a healthy immune system is important - a good quality raw diet or if not possible, then a good quality dry or wet food is important. b) outdoor pets are at higher risk - particularly short haired dogs c) being around ponds, bodies of water etc. make pets at higher risk d) remove standing water regularly (after a rain or watering) e) keep grass cut f) religious spraying of natural mosquito repellant. My story: I have not given my 9 yr old dog heartworm preventative for around 7 yrs and my other 6 yr old dog for 4 yrs. I have lived in Florida for around 7 yrs - where the mosquito and flea are the state bird :-) I been feeding my dogs a raw diet and have since they were 1 and 2 respectively. I spray them with a cedar oil product every morning before we go for our walk, and also spray our grounds with a cedar oil hose end sprayer 2X a month, I also spray myself with these cedar oil products. I have been doing this for around a year. I don't want to advertise this product because I am now a distributor of it to a local store here in Gainesville. If Mike L. doesn't mind I will let you know the name of the store if you live here and if not I will let you know the name of the product. I as of yet do not sell it directly to individuals. There are other repellents just for mosquitos that I love, and other essential oils just for ticks and another just for fleas - the latter two are okay but the cedar oil works on all.
If you wish just the mosquito repellent go to google Flutterbye Aromatics and click on Pooch products - you will see the mosquito repellent there. I still use that on me as well when I tire of the cedar smell - it works pretty good - won't work on fleas/ticks though, like the cedar oil product.
