Playing for Change

Turn up your volume, click on the video above and enjoy Playing for Change!

"Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic,… Continue

A Great Day at the Garden!

A Great Day at the Garden!

Collard greens, kale, cabbage, tomatoes, potatoes, mint, peppers, carrots, tomatillos, echanacea, and garlic chives. Everything's happy and healthy in the garden!

What are you planting this season?

This is my best garden ever. I got the kale, collard greens and cabbage from our local organic grocers. They sell sprouts…

Organic Yucatan

Knitting in Merida, Yucatan on a Monday night

Yucatan communities have the hip social patterns we seek out in places like Santa Fe, NM, Crested Butte, CO and Portland, OR. One I loved is this Monday sewing group, bathed in the energy of being together. How would you like to sew with your friends while breathing the rich tropical air, fragrant with citrus… Continue

Tomatillos Rock the Free World

I love salsa verde. You know, green sauce. Being of the Southwest US persuasion, and some people call me Miguelito to boot, it's just a part of my blood. So, here in the Swamp, I get these cravings for Tex Mex, Latino, Southwest fare, call it what you like, these little boogers are what you…

Living Large, or How to Have Fun on No Money

Not a Ducati...

"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether… Continue

Spring Planting at McRorie Community Garden

Just crank this up and read on!

Spring Planting at McRorie Community Garden

The broccoli we grow at McRorie Community Garden is so tasty it sometimes doesn't make it home! I had this as a lunch reward after planting some good, hardy vegetables for my Spring garden.…

Variations on Home Gardens

Community Gardening with Organic Vegetables

Click on the photo above to see several beautiful ways people are organizing their organic gardens. I am also reading a book about gardening called "Gardening for the Future of the Earth", by Howard-Yana Shapiro and John Harrison. It has chapters by a variety of authors many who have been mentioned by members of Zoobird in… Continue

Companion Planting

Gainesville Sights

Beans + corn + pumpkin (squash) = Companion Planting. It makes total sense. The corn provides a stalk for the beans to climb. The squash provides ground cover. Lots of it.

We have some very cold temps overnight here in Gainesville, FL. That makes it not a very good time to do any spring planting. But, soon, we'll return to normal and look out!… Continue

Qi Gong is the Alphabet

Do you do any form of Qi Gong? I first learned about Qi Gong at the Seaside Hostel in Oregon. I arrived one day and saw a note at the front desk that said "Qi Gong 9:00 AM for anyone interested - free!"

Houston, we have Kombucha!

Kombucha: do we have mold?

Wow! It worked! I was a little concerned when I saw the Kombucha after about 2 weeks because there was an irregular film on top. The photo below, from the Wikipedia Kombucha article leads me to believe the film on my Kombucha is normal. I'm… Continue

Juicers, Beauty and Living a Life of Integrity and Joy

Imperial Golden Harvest 9901 Juicer

My guitar teacher turned me on to the wonders of juicing. I'd drop by for a lesson and he'd say "Hey, you want something to drink?" He had a juicer that looked like it was commercial, and a press too. He'd make some delicious juices, usually with coconut milk added. After he juiced the stuff, he'd take the pulp and put it in a press that looked like… Continue
