Dangerously organic!
(photo from wikipedia) I heard a Barred Owl this morning. It was just before sunrise at about 6:30. I opened my window as quietly as I could and recorded it. Click here to listen to the recording. Have you ever heard the sounds the owl makes after it calls "who cooks for you, who cooks for you all"? I bet there was more than one owl. It's common to hear owls call just before dawn and dusk here in Florida. They wake me up in the morning and get my heart started beating with excitement every time!
This is a commercially available owl call. Click here and listen to the sound it makes. You can use a call like this to attract and "talk" back to owls. Isn't it interesting how similar, yet not nearly as beautiful the artificial call is.
I met Michael Walker at a garage sale he had at his house just across the street from the McRorie Community Garden. I bought a book from him called "How to Talk to Birds", by Davis, Richard C.
It's all about enjoying nature and especially the thrill of sighting beautiful birds. That's Michael in the photo above, working on his motorcycle. The 73 turquoise Triumph Tiger 650 to the right of Michael's Honda is another thing that gets my heart started. Thanks, Michael! Hope you're well!
The Audubon Center for Birds of Prey is a rehab in Maitland, Florida for injured raptors. You can drop by
and see hawks, owls, eagles and many other amazingly beautiful birds
there.
