Yesterday, the travel bug bit and I drove up the panhandle coast of Florida to explore what some say are the best beaches in the world. I stopped at Mexico Beach and was struck by the Caribbean blue water, white sand and calmness of the area.
I picked up a couple of shells to admire. They were a bit different than the East coast shells of Miami shores.
The sand was white, white, white.
Agnes, thanks for the update yesterday!
Agnes is a grad student in Lubbock, Texas. I met Agnes at the Portland Hawthorne Hostel, one of my
favorite hostels. She's from France and is working on her second MSc. Zoobird is *the* mac-daddy way to stay in touch, isn't it?
The Portland Hawthorne Hostel is green, green, green. It has an eco-roof!
I started to ask her if there were community gardens in Lubbock. Being proactive (!), I thought I'd do my own research first and found that there were some
folks who wanted to start a community garden.
The reason I went up to the panhandle was to get a new bike! In the process, I made a new friend, Rob Hall, the seller of the bike, and I hope we see him here on Zoobird. Rob is a massage therapist and his wife Darcy works at B
ig Daddy's bikes in Santa Rosa Beach. They are our new connections in the beautiful Florida panhandle. Rob told me about local tidal inlets he'd seen only in West Africa before moving to Freeport, FL. He said he'd meant to move to California, but loved the Florida panhandle so much he stayed. 14 years now! Needless to say, I feel like a kid with a new bike. It's a cool, vintage Merckx. Thanks to
Bill for pointing it out to me.
What a beautiful sunset! The Destin area of the Florida panhandle is breathtaking. I'll be back!
Stay tuned!
